Death Of Marat Biography

Death Of Marat Presumably named after a painting by 18th century painter Jacques-Louis David, Death of Marat formed as a three-piece in Arizona in 2000. Drummer and vocalist Jef Wright, bassist John Brandon, and guitarist Mike Juliano gelled from the start. Their debut release, Shattered, was released on Boulder, Colorado's Satellite Transmissions Records later that year, the band's progressive and artsy brand of prog-fueled punk was immediate from the start. Sometimes sloppy and off-kilter, but always intense, the band's churning sound immediately impressed. The brief, 27-minute disc quickly drew the band comparisons to Fugazi and Unwound, with their clattering instrumentation and all-over-the-map vocals. All Eyes Open was released in two years later on Stickfigure Records. Again, the band's post-hardcore sound was mixed with their seamless blending from song to song, and they created an impressive environment for themselves and their fans to vent musically. ~ Stephen Cramer, All Music Guide
