Exorcist Biography

Exorcist Exorcist was a New York heavy metal band which literally came out of nowhere, released an impressive debut in 1985's Nightmare Theatre, and then promptly vanished without a trace. Only later was it revealed that vocalist Damian Rath, guitarist Marc Dorian, bassist Jamie Locke, and drummer Geoff Fontaine were in fact all aliases assumed by the members of local metal band Virgin Steele (respectively, David Defeis, Edward Pursino, Joe O'Reilly, and Joey Ayvazian) -- then awaiting the conclusion of legal proceedings to recover their name from ousted guitarist Jack Starr. This accomplished, they quietly ceased operations as Exorcist to resume work under the Virgin Steele banner, leaving only a very decent album and a nice little riddle for future metal heads to try and solve. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
