Gucci Mane Biography
Hailing from the hip-hop hotbed of Atlanta, Gucci Mane--"mane" is "man" in Down South slang--made his national debut in '05 with the hit single "So Icy". The unapologetic ode to bling featured up-and-comer signee Young Jeezy became an instant anthem for aspiring ballers everywhere.
Born Radric Davis in Birmingham, Gucci--who got his moniker from his streetwise, designer clothes-loving father known as Goochie Man--began writing poetry, songs and short stories at the age of 10. Influenced by artists like Run DMC, Eightball and MJG and Houston's own Lil' Flip, Gucci was in the studio recording his first songs at the age of 14.
This year, Gucci released his debut LP Trap House. The album is a mix of his laid back flow, raunchy humor and catchy hooks, displayed on tracks like "Lawnmower Man" and "Booty Shorts." Ironically, Gucci was behind bars the day his album dropped, on murder charges. Released on $100,000 bail, he is currently awaiting trial.
