Kontrol Biography
Best-known for their hit "Merengue Party," the Latin dance group Kontrol is essentially a vocal quartet led by Jochy Rey (b. Jose Feliz) and featuring Jaime Garcia, Wilbert Jorge, and Jose Pena. The group's style, Merenhouse, blends the merengue music that originated in the Dominican Republic with horn-dominated arrangements and club-oriented electronic dance beats. Kontrol's self-titled debut album was released in 1995; the follow-up, Los Reyes de la Alegria, appeared in 1998 under the name Grupo Kontrol. Kontrol then landed a hit with "Merengue Party II," which made them staples on the club circuit, and released their third album, Y2Kontrol, in 2000, which produced another hit in "El Volumen." ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
