Slobo Horo Biography
A ten-piece, Finland-based band, Slobo Horo continues to preserve the music of Turkey, Albania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, and the rarely-heard gypsy music of the Balkan Mountains region. Although they initially performed "state-approved" folk music, the band has increasingly turned its attention to more urban dance music. According to www.digelus.com, Slobo Horo is the "world's coolest and most rockin' electric Balkan band." Taking their name from a sketch in a Finnish television comedy show of the early 1980s, Slobo Horo spent years rehearsing at the Institute of Folklore in Tampere, Finland. Their debut album, Mastika, released in Finland in 1993 and in Scandanavia, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland the following year, was followed by Esma in 1994 and Divane in 2000. A remix single and video of their song, "My Gypsy Beauty," was released in 1993. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
